Induction lighting, like fluorescents, uses mercury inside of a gas-filled bulb which emits UV radiation that is converted to light by the phosphor coating on the bulb. This coating determines the color quality of the light. But, because induction lights do not use electrodes that degrade with every use like fluorescents, they last seven times longer than fluorescents and five to thirteen times longer than metal halides- up to 100,000 hours.
